Colts QB out with hip injury

Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh after apparently injuring his hip in the first quarter.

The injury marred an otherwise dream start to the game for the Colts (1-2), who led undefeated Pittsburgh (3-0) 17-3 at halftime, with Richardson completing three of his first four passes for 71 yards and 24 more added rushing yards.

After Richardson, a second-year starter, was hit near the right hip on a 14-yard scramble downfield with 5:42 left in the first quarter, you could immediately see him reaching into the box. Richardson missed the next two games before returning.

But on his first play, Richardson struggled to run left just six yards from the end zone and immediately left the game, with Joe Flacco coming in as the Colts’ replacement. The team initially decided Richardson’s return was questionable, but he was downgraded to out for the remainder of the game.

The fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Richardson’s short NFL tenure was marred by injuries, starting with a concussion in just his second career game. Shortly after his return, he suffered a shoulder injury in October 2023 that required surgery.
