The Texans decide whether RB can start against the Jaguars

According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Texans upgraded starting running back Joe Mixon from questionable to questionable in the hours leading up to Sunday’s game in Houston’s Week 4 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mixon missed Week 3 with an ankle injury, limiting him to a limited practice session until Houston’s AFC South matchup against Jacksonville. Schultz reported that Mixon tested his ankle before the game and that the Texans decided to rest him for another week.

Mixon was traded this offseason from Cincinnati to Houston, where he began his NFL career in 2017. He quickly signed a two-year, $19.5 million contract extension with the Texans to take over as their starting running back.

He recorded 184 rushing yards and a touchdown on his first 39 carries with the team and added six receptions for 44 yards before suffering his injury.

Houston will also be without backup running back Dameon Pierce, who was sidelined Friday with a hamstring injury.

Cam Akers is expected to start in place of Mixon and Pierce after rushing for a total of 53 yards on 16 attempts in Weeks 2-3 against Chicago and Minnesota.

The Jaguars and Texans are expected to release their inactive lists around 11:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.
