Eagles fans are not happy with one of their greats from the beginning of this century.

Hugh Douglas was a ferocious pass rusher for the Eagles (1998-2002). Old Bucs fans still remember the All-Pro.

Now Douglas is a weekday anchor at Philadelphia sports radio giant WIP. Despite being berated by his co-host this week, Douglas remained true to his belief that the undermanned Eagles will lose to the Bucs on Sunday.

According to Douglas, Bucs head coach/defensive guru Todd Bowles will do everything he can to stop Saquon Barkley, the NFL’s leading rusher in 2024. Bowles will make Hurts beat him through the air, and Douglas doesn’t think Hurts is capable of that.

He sees (like most rational thinkers) how Hurts has repeatedly struggled against the Bowles defense and that Hurts will now likely be without star receivers AJ Brown and Devonta Smith and Pro Bowl right tackle Lane Johnson.

“Basically your kryptonite at this point in your career; He is your kryptonite. That’s Coach Bowles and the way he was able to attack Jalen,” Douglas said of Hurts.

The Eagles rank second in the NFL in yards of offense, but Douglas is confident they can pull away on Sunday.

He also doesn’t like how the Eagles’ defensive players tweet in the media. Douglas quoted defensive tackle Jalen Carter as telling reporters that Baker Mayfield had a tendency to hold the ball too long.

Perhaps the most interesting of Joe’s hours listening to Philly sports radio this week was the chatter that the Eagles may be preparing to limit touches from Barkley, who is averaging 24 per game through Week 3.

That pace would hand Barkley the most severe punishment of his injury-prone career, and the Eagles want him to be available in December and January.
