Saints notes and storylines for Week 4

OLAVE TO PLAY: Chris Olave, who was injured in training on Friday and is dealing with a hamstring injury, is expected to play on Sunday. It fits everything I’ve heard. How big a role will Olave play in this game? That remains to be seen. Regardless, Olave and Alvin Kamara (rib/hip) are both playing injured, as are several other players out there. Not having Olave in the lineup or having him there makes a difference, but we’ll see what impact he’ll have. I expect a big Taysom Hill game.

O-LINE IN FOCUS: No, Erik McCoy (groin surgery) and Cesar Ruiz (knee) will mean others will have to step in. Based on what I’ve seen and learned, it looks like New Orleans is rolling in with a lineup that looks like this (left to right): Taliese Fuaga, Lucas Patrick, Shane Lemieux, Landon Young and Trevor Penning . Keeping the left side intact is actually a smart thing to do, but the concern will be how the team handles the Falcons’ interior rush and commitment to a new center. The Saints will be without McCoy for the foreseeable future, and this is the first of those games. It will also be a big game for Derek Carr.

DEFENSIVE REBOUND: New Orleans shut out the Eagles for three quarters, but the final quarter really hurt them and resulted in a loss. The explosive plays appear to be coachable and task-based, so hopefully that doesn’t happen again. Losing Demario Davis (hamstring injury) will hurt this team, but getting Kirk Cousins with Chase Young and Carl Granderson will go a long way on Sunday. The Saints need their defense to get up to par and keep them in the game until the offense can catch up. It starts with the Falcons.
