ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to Berkeley

ESPN’s College GameDay takes place for the first time in Berkeley on Saturday.

The pregame show will take place on campus before Cal hosts Miami on Saturday

ESPN’s “College GameDay Built by The Home Depot” pregame show will take place Oct. 5 in Berkeley before the California football team hosts Miami at California Memorial Stadium. It will be College Gameday’s first-ever appearance in Berkeley.

The Bears and Hurricanes kick off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN.


College GameDay, ESPN’s wildly popular pregame show, travels to a different college campus or game location each week of the season. It airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. PT on ESPN and ESPNU.


Saturday’s show in Berkeley will take place in the Memorial Glade in the center of campus. Fans interested in attending in person are asked to arrive early.

“We are thrilled that ESPN College GameDay will be held on the Berkeley campus this week,” said UC Berkeley Chancellor Rich Lyons. “A college football Saturday brings our community together and we are excited about the wonderful opportunity that ESPN’s College GameDay provides to show what Berkeley is all about.”


Cal (3-1, 0-1 ACC) enters the game following its first bye week of the season following a 14-9 loss at Florida State on Sept. 21 in the program’s first conference game as a member of the ACC. Miami (5-0, 1-0 ACC) ranked No. 7 in the most recent Associated Press Top 25 and earned a 38-34 win over Virginia Tech on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium.


“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome ESPN College GameDay to Cal,” said Jim Knowlton, Cal athletics director. “It is a great reward for everyone associated with our football program, and I know our Cal family will relish this incredible opportunity to showcase our student-athletes, the university and the city of Berkeley on the national stage .”

Cal has previously played three games in games that produced College GameDay, going 1-2 in each of those contests.
