AP Top 25 Poll Prediction for Week 6

As we examine the damage from Saturday’s final games, let’s look ahead to the AP Top 25 college football rankings ahead of Week 6

Who is moving up? Who is moving down?

Note: This is not our ranking of the best teams, but our prediction of how the top 25 voters will rank them in Sunday’s official poll

Expected to drop out of the rankings: Illinois, Oklahoma State

25. UNLV. The NIL controversy surrounding Matthew Sluka appears to be a more distant memory after the Rebels defeated Fresno State by a 59-14 decision to take first place in the Mountain West.

24.Indiana. Curt Cignetti gives the Hoosiers a 5-0 lead for the first time since 1967 after beating Maryland by two touchdowns.

23. Boise State. Ashton Jeanty ran for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 45-24 win over Washington State, making him 3-1 on the season.

22. Texas A&M. Marcel Reed threw two touchdowns and ran for a third, and the Aggies held Arkansas to just three points after the first quarter.

21. Kansas State. The Wildcats ran for 300 yards and had 6 total touchdowns in a dominant performance against Oklahoma State, a key rebound after BYU’s loss last week.

20. Louisville. The Cardinals nearly recovered after three turnovers in the first half, but couldn’t withstand Notre Dame’s defense in the last minute and fell to 3-1 on the year.

19.BYU. The Cougars raced out to a 21-0 lead and then fended off Baylor’s comeback attempt in the second half to move to 2-0 in Big 12 play.

18.Oklahoma. An impressive fourth-quarter pick-six finally put the Sooners ahead at Auburn, rallying from a 21-10 deficit and giving OU its first win in SEC play.

17. Iowa State. A routine 20-0 victory over Houston in which the Cyclones ran for 240 yards to earn their first Big 12 test of the season.

16. Clemson. Cade Klubnik threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth in a loss to Stanford.

15. Notre Dame. The Irish playoff hopes are still very much alive after prevailing at home against Louisville, thanks in part to a 21-point first quarter score and solid defense.

14.Utah. Unfortunately for the Cam Rising-less Utes, Arizona found its groove back on offense as Noah Fifita led two touchdown drives in an upset.

13. LSU. Garrett Nussmeier led a total offense of over 600 yards to lift South Alabama to a key matchup against Ole Miss.

12. Ole Miss. Lane Kiffin’s 26-game winning streak as a double-digit favorite goes up in flames as the Kentucky defense defeated the Rebels’ No. 1 offense in a major upset, the first Wildcat win in Oxford since 1978.

11. U.S.C. After giving the Badgers an early lead with some costly turnovers, the Trojans scored 28 unanswered points at home to secure their first Big Ten win.

10.Michigan. That strong defense gave up a little late and allowed the Gophers to score 21 points in the fourth quarter, but Michigan recovered, albeit controversially, from Minnesota’s onside kick to increase its lead to 2-0 in Big Ten play.

9. Missouri. Idle, next up at Texas A&M

8. Penn State. A close game in the Big Ten’s opening game against Illinois, but the Nittany Lions’ defense held firm and the offense managed just enough to score three touchdowns to remain perfect.

7.Oregon. Dillon Gabriel was efficient again, throwing three touchdowns as the Ducks racked up 153 yards on the ground and defeated UCLA in the schools’ first Big Ten meeting.

6.Miami. Still undefeated despite trailing at home to Virginia Tech, thanks to Cam Ward leading a furious comeback and the Canes surviving a controversial Hail Mary ruling as time expired.

5. Tennessee. Idle, next in Arkansas

4. Georgia. Things started as badly as they could have at Alabama, but the Bulldogs regrouped in the second half and battled back to come close as Carson Beck threw three touchdowns in the second half and Dillon Bell in a frantic comeback- Attempt a fourth touchdown scoring game with more than 1,000 combined yards. But Beck’s late interception in the end zone, his third pick of the night, finally ended Georgia’s hopes. The first of three big road tests for the Dawgs comes down as a loss.

3. Ohio State. Jeremiah Smith scored two goals as the Buckeyes raced past Sparty in their Big Ten opener, defeating MSU in 9 straight games by an average of 34 points.

2.Texas. Arch Manning completed 83 percent of his throws for 300 yards and had three all-purpose touchdowns as the Longhorns beat Mississippi State in their SEC debut, but events in Tuscaloosa should ensure we see a new No. 1 team this week.

1.Alabama. Jalen Milroe made mincemeat of Georgia’s vaunted defense, building a 21-0 lead in the first quarter before the offense fell asleep in the second half. Milroe finally turned things up with a memorable 75-yard TD play to Ryan Williams that took the lead back for good. A month into the season, Milroe is the Heisman front-runner and quarterback of the best team in the country.
