Clemson University announces schedule changes after storm and urges safety

CLEMSON, SC (FOX Carolina) – Clemson University said Friday afternoon that it is working with the university’s emergency operations team to assess the impact of the storm.

Local authorities are also working to assess the impact of the storm and will continue to do so.

Clemson said there are currently no changes to Saturday’s game day, with kickoff still taking place at 7 p.m

Stanford University attempted to fly out yesterday but was left stranded on the tarmac for hours before its charter flight with United was ultimately canceled.

Stanford currently flies from San Francisco on United charter flight 3797. The plane took off 21 minutes late but is scheduled to land at Greenville-Spartanburg Airport at 7:21 p.m

Clemson said they sent emails directly to those with tickets informing them there would be no charges and that they would send another email this afternoon.

“If something were to change, we would send it directly to ticket holders,” Clemson University told FOX Carolina’s Beth Hoole.

Clemson says all parking lots will open at 10 a.m. instead of 8 a.m

Memorial Stadium gates will open at 5:00 p.m

Clemson noted that downtown stores may have limited capacity, so fans who typically visit those areas on game days are encouraged to seek alternative options.

Matchday staffing will also be affected; Clemson asks fans to remain patient throughout game day.

Clemson noted that there is significant damage throughout the area and urged fans to use caution and patience as they make their way through surrounding areas and the city of Clemson.

Here are some of the tips Clemson offered for travel/parking on game day:

  • Make travel decisions based on local weather conditions. If travel circumstances require, transfer or list your tickets through Ticketmaster
  • Give yourself extra time to get to the game
  • Do not drive over downed power lines
  • Be patient with traffic and parking
  • Use caution near areas that may be flooded – especially at night
  • Confirm your location with local business owners if parking off campus
  • For tents, choose sturdy construction with ventilated canopy tops, anchor your canopy with ropes and steel stakes through holes in the canopy foundation, avoid soggy ground, remove side walls to prevent slipping, use weights on canopy legs for further stability
  • Extension cords should only be used outdoors in wet weather if they are designed for that purpose – general purpose extension cords are not waterproof and may short circuit
  • Parking options for individual games can be found here.

“Clemson Athletics and campus security personnel continue to monitor the impact of the storm,” Clemson University said. “The safety of fans and student-athletes at both universities is our top priority. We look forward to seeing you in Clemson tomorrow.”

Stay with FOX Carolina as we continue to cover the storm.
