Diamondbacks Gameday Thread #161: 9/28 vs. Padres

The penultimate game of the regular season, and the Diamondbacks now need to get some help from the Mets and Braves teams if they want to make it to the postseason. More importantly, they also need to get better themselves after a game where they had to catch up before even getting into the game. It was the offense that got them to play meaningful baseball in Game No. 161, and it will likely be the offense that determines whether or not their season ends tomorrow. Last night you have to recognize that they didn’t give up after being 4-0 down and equalized in the seventh, eighth and ninth periods. But 1v7 with RISP doomed them.

On the hill, the team turns to Eduardo Rodriguez, and hopefully it will be the version we saw in Colorado, which was by far the best e-rod ever looked. On the other hand, he was up against the Rockies, and the Padres are tougher. Perhaps San Diego will take their foot off the gas a bit, as they are a No. 4 seed and probably don’t want to risk injuries to key players before the Wild Card Series begins on Tuesday. Elsewhere, the Mets (in Milwaukee) and the Braves (hosting the Royals) will be playing 10 to 15 minutes before this report goes live, so I’m sure the scoreboard will be watched. Let’s hope Arizona minds its own business tonight to maintain realistic hope for another day.
