DJ Uiagalelei injury: FSU QB leaves game after pick-six

State of Florida quarterback DJ Uiagalelei Left Saturday’s game against SMU in the fourth quarter with a finger injury. Brock Glenn came into play in his place.

Uiagalelei was taken to the injury tent with about 12 minutes left to play to evaluate. Before his departure, he was 12 of 30 passing for 222 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

On the drive before his exit, Uiagalelei threw an interception that led to a touchdown for the Mustangs. That play likely sealed the win for SMU, which took a 42-16 lead with 12:55 left.

That would be the score the Mustangs would use to go 1-0 in conference play at the start of their first season in the ACC. As for Florida State, it fell to 1-4 (1-3 ACC) on the year.

Uiagalelei struggled a lot this season after his move Oregon State. He has thrown just four touchdowns and six interceptions in five games, with a completion percentage of 53.8%.

Florida State is coming off an undefeated regular season in 2023, but the transition is clear Jordan Travis to Uiagalelei caused some problems. The Seminoles are still committed to him at quarterback, but it will be interesting to see if that changes in the future.

Glenn didn’t have many opportunities on Saturday, but failed to complete a single pass in four attempts. He started in both the ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl last season after Travis suffered an injury.

In any case, something needs to change quickly for Florida State, which is already in danger of being eliminated from bowl eligibility. The next face of the Seminoles Clemson in a Week 6 matchup.
