Moline, IL – Gusty northeast winds and dry conditions are increasing the fire danger throughout the Quad Cities area today, particularly near dry agricultural fields west of the Mississippi River. Residents are urged to avoid activities that could start fires as winds of up to 30 miles per hour are expected.

According to the National Weather Service, the wind advisory remains in effect today and overnight. Affected areas include Moline, Davenport and much of northern Illinois and eastern Iowa. Dry weather conditions combined with strong winds could cause an ignited fire to spread quickly. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid open burning.

Tonight winds will ease slightly to 5-15 mph and temperatures will cool to the upper 50s. The fire danger will ease as winds ease overnight, but the overall dry weather will continue.

Looking ahead, Sunday will remain sunny with highs around 27°C and sustained gusts around 20mph. The Quad Cities will experience warming through Monday, with highs near 30 degrees, but the fire threat is decreasing as winds weaken. Cooler air arrives mid-week, bringing highs around 22°C on Tuesday and dropping to below 40°C on Tuesday evening.
