In the four-ball session on Saturday morning, the USA found their way back to their success, going 3-1 to take the score to 8-6 over the Internationals. Team USA’s Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa took the first point on Saturday, defeating national team players Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith. National players Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim hit back with a 4-3 win over Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark. Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele combined for another point at the Internationals with a 3-2 win over Corey Conners and Mackenzie Hughes. Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns secured the final point of the session with a 2-1 win over Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im.

Round 4: Foursome game summaries

Taylor Pendrith/Adam Scott (International) def. Brian Harman/Max Homa (USA), 2-up

Recap: Playing their third game of the week, the Pendrith-Scott duo recovered from a deficit midway through the front nine to secure a crucial point for the international side in the first foursome game on Saturday afternoon.

The international team struck first with Scott’s game-winning 8-foot birdie on the par-4 third hole, but the U.S. team fought back with consecutive game-winning birdies on the fourth and fifth holes. Pendrith and Scott responded with consecutive birdies on No. 8 (on Pendrith’s 2-foot approach) and No. 9 (on Pendrith’s 13-footer) to take a 1-up lead at the turn and an up-and- Down birdie on the par-5 12th extended the lead to 2-up.

The U.S. team halved the lead with a game-winning par on No. 15 when Scott missed a 5-footer, but Homa/Harman immediately bogeyed the next hole and fell behind 2-down with two holes to go. The U.S. team stayed alive with a birdie on the par-3 17th when Homa stuffed a wedge to 4 feet and Harman converted, but a bogey at 18 handed the game to the Pendrith-Scott duo, who moved to 2-overall. 1 improved week.

Round 3: Four Ball Game Summaries

Scottie Scheffler/Collin Morikawa (USA) defeated. Adam Scott/Taylor Pendrith (International), 2 and 1

Recap: American duo Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa secured a 2-1 victory over International Team’s Adam Scott and Taylor Pendrith, with Scheffler delivering a game-winning 16-foot birdie just off the green on the par-3 17th hole.

In their first pairing at the Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup, major champions Scheffler and Morikawa made just one birdie on the first 11 holes (Morikawa made a birdie on the par-4 second), but the international team also managed just one in that span Birdie (Scott made birdie on the par-4 third. The game ended in a tie on the par-5 12th hole and was won by Morikawa with a birdie just short of the green. In their second game together, Finau and Schauffele won four holes ahead of the Internationals after their four-ball victory on Thursday. The game ended on the 16th hole.

Both teams carded pars on the first five holes. Finau broke the deadlock with a birdie and sank a crucial 20-foot putt on No. 6 to give the U.S. team the lead. Schauffele then extended his lead to 2-up on the ninth hole with a birdie from 13 feet. The International team narrowed the deficit on the 11th when Conners made birdie, but the Americans won the next hole when Schauffele made his approach to 3 feet on the par 5. Finau added another circle on the 14th, effectively sealing the game.

Recap: Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim combined for nine birdies in 15 holes on Saturday morning, and there was no shortage of exuberance from the pair. There were three birdies on the final four holes of the match, punctuated by Si Woo Kim’s 18-footer on the par-4 15th hole to secure a point for the international team.

Team Kim set the tone with back-to-back game-winning birdies on the first two holes, one from each player. After Clark’s winning birdie on the par-3 fourth, Tom Kim made three winning birdies in a four-hole stretch around the bend (Nos. 7, 8 and 10) to offset Clark’s winning birdie on the ninth hole. The International team maintained that 3-up advantage with four straight holes tied at Nos. 11-14, highlighted by Tom Kim’s 20-foot birdie on the short par-4 14th, which elicited a primal scream and several fist pumps; Bradley responded with a 10-foot birdie to keep the U.S. team’s faint hopes alive. Tom Kim hits a 20-foot birdie putt at the Presidents Cup

Recap: In a back-and-forth match that was the deepest of any morning session, Cantlay and Im scored birdies on Nos. 14 and 16 after the U.S. team took a 2-0 lead through 13 holes and Burns made par Par reached -3 17th to tie the hole and secure the final point of the session.

The international team scored first with Matsuyama’s game-winning 8-foot birdie on the par-4 second hole, and the Americans tied it with Cantlay’s game-winning par on the long par-4 hole. Burns won the par-5 sixth hole with a birdie, and the next three holes were tied before Matsuyama fired a 25-foot birdie on the par-4 tenth hole to tie the match.

The game turned around on the next two holes.
