Karl-Anthony Towns said it was a “childhood dream” to play for the Knicks.

Karl-Anthony Towns once raved about the chance to play for the Knicks.

He will experience this reality soon.

Towns, who the Knicks are acquiring from the Timberwolves in a blockbuster deal, spoke with The Post’s Steve Serby for a Q&A before the 2015 NBA draft lottery.

Towns — who grew up in Piscataway, New Jersey — was widely expected to be the No. 1 pick in the draft after playing one season at Kentucky.

And the Knicks had the second-best odds of landing the top pick.

Towns said he dreams of playing for his hometown team.

“It would be an honor to play for this organization, not only as a player, but as a Knicks fan,” Towns said at the time. “It’s going to be a childhood dream, I think – fighting for the Knicks all the time, and the next thing you know, you hear an organization calling your name, to go out there and do your best. “I think it would be very cool and real a great honor and blessing to be able to play for them.”

The Knicks infamously failed at No. 4 and selected Kristaps Porzingis, missing out on Towns – who went to the Timberwolves.

Towns, 28, spent nine seasons with the Timberwolves before the stunning news broke Friday.

The Knicks are sending Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, DaQuan Jeffries and a lottery-protected first-round pick from the Pistons to the Timberwolves as part of the deal, Stefan Bondy of The Post confirmed.

At the time, Towns felt ready to be seen as a “savior.”

“You know what? I think it comes with the territory,” Towns said. “It comes with the territory. We have to be ready to take that stress head on, and I feel like I’m ready to do that. If that’s my role must be – I don’t think that will be my role, I think I could just be a help to my teammates.

“I will try to work very hard to give them the best chance of winning, but it’s not about a savior, you can’t do everything alone. That’s why no one is greater than anyone else. Everyone helps each other achieve a common goal: win a championship and win games.”

Towns also revealed his favorite places in New York City.

“I like the scenery,” Towns said. “Times Square is great. Since I can walk around, I love going to New York and eating pizza. I played at Rucker Park once when I was younger, it was great.

“There is so much history behind New York, and so much history that it takes people a lifetime to understand it all.”
