Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals Prediction, Odds and Tips

MacKenzie Gore is undeniably talented, but he struggles to find consistency across an entire season. However, his current form is fantastic and Nationals fans are hoping his end in 2024 can turn into the start of 2025 for the young team. Gore has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last six starts, including just one combined earned run in his last 13 innings against the Cubs and Marlins. He has struggled against the Phillies in the past, but two of his three starts against them have been solid this season. Philadelphia is still fighting for the top spot in the National League, but Gore should pitch well enough in the first innings, even if he sees his workload limited through the end of the season.

Zack Wheeler is another starter in great shape, but that shouldn’t be a surprise since the Phillies’ star does it every year around this time. In his last 10 starts, he scored earned runs with totals of 2, 1, 2, 1, 0, 2, 2, 1, 2 and 0 while striking out 6 or more batters in each of those performances. This 10-start stretch spanned 65 combined innings as he gives his team length and a chance to win with each run. Wheeler pitched very well in both starts against the Nationals this season and I’m expecting a third standout performance from the right-hander at this point. I prefer the lower limit of the published game total in this game.

Nationals vs. Phillies under 7.5 (-105) available at time of publication. Playable at odds of -110.
