Google’s latest Doodle is a delicious multiplayer game

Key insights

  • Google’s latest doodle is an interactive multiplayer arcade game called Celebrating Popcorn.
  • The game is designed with a fun concept and even includes different kernels with unique powers.
  • Players can play alone or team up with friends in Squad mode, adding a twist to the typical Doodle experience.

Google Search is the go-to tool for billions of people around the world to stimulate their curiosity, but providing results alone isn’t enough. We’ve seen the company experiment with AI-generated summaries to make your searches easier, and who can forget the visual touch of Google Doodles? The company uses artists to stylize its logo to commemorate important international events, people and even film premieres. The latest Doodle is turning heads with a built-in interactive multiplayer arcade game.

Creativity in the workplace is completely on brand for Google. The company regularly collaborates with stars to create new navigation experiences on Waze, and Google Doodles are just a great way to keep searches interesting, especially since the company never repeats artwork. Recently we saw Google go beyond art with Easter Eggs, celebrating the release of the Deadpool and Wolverine movie with on-screen pop-ups when you use Circle to Search for anything related to the movie had to do.

The latest Easter egg of this kind is a fun interactive doodle that immediately reminds me of Flash Player games of yesteryear. The theme is about popcorn, and you can move your on-screen character, a kernel of corn, to keep it from bursting from butter projectiles in the cooker.

Also enjoy unusual multiplayer action

Google simply calls this doodle “Celebrating Popcorn.” Therefore, given the effort that went into its creation, we’re not entirely sure whether it will be available for the usual 24 hours or longer. Nevertheless, the game is a real blast and the controls are easy to learn. The winner is the last player not defeated, just like a battle royale game. You even get different cores with different powers to help him dodge projectiles.

A fun concept like this isn’t unusual for a company that reimagined the Chrome Dino game, but Popcorn! is a multiplayer title. Yes, you can team up with invited friends in Squad Mode or simply play alone with other players from around the world. The game is already available for you to play on the search homepage, and we hope Google adds it to the GameSnacks catalog for posterity. There is a collection of other Google Doodle games you can play as well.
