What’s on TV this weekend (September 27th)?

Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big events happening on TV from Friday September 27th to Sunday September 29th. All times are eastern. (Note: What’s On’s weekly edition is published on Sundays.)


1. Will & Harper will make you cry

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: Josh Greenbaum directs the heartwarming Sundance Film Festival documentary Will & Harperin which buddies Will Ferrell and former SNL Head writer Harper Steele goes on a road trip after coming out as transgender. Along the way, they hope to reunite and discover what Steele’s transition means for their friendship.


2. Saturday Night Live starts the 50th(!) season

NBC, 11:30 p.m.: Jean Smart, who won her sixth Emmy earlier this month, does it SNL Debuts to kick off the show’s groundbreaking 50th season alongside musical guest Jelly Roll. Pay attention The AV Club‘s review of the evening on Sunday.


3. Brad Pitt and George Clooney are Wolves

Apple TV+, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Wolves does not belong to it Oceans franchise, but it still relies on reveling in the charm of its lead actors. George Clooney and Brad Pitt play lonely professional fixers who reluctantly join forces to defeat a common enemy. Jon Watts’ action comedy also stars Amy Ryan, Poorna Jagannathan, Austin Abrams, Frances McDormand and Richard Kind. Checkout The AV ClubReview.


4. Cheer up, because The Great British Baking Show is back

Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: The new season of The Great British Baking Show welcomes a dozen new faces (and familiar ones like Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding) and the 10 episodes are released weekly.


5. Start the spooky season with this Rosemary’s baby Prequel

Paramount+ Friday, 3:01 a.m.: After coping Ozarks Ruth Langmore and Anna Delvey, Julia Garner stars in the 1965 set Apartment 7A as a dancer in New York City who suffers an injury and rents an apartment from an older couple (Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally) – only to discover that evil is lurking not just in her apartment, but throughout the apartment complex. 6. Social studies examines LA’s modern students


FX, Friday, 10 p.m.: Lauren Greenfield directs and produces the documentaries Social studieswhich spends a year examining the lives of students in Los Angeles who struggle with pressures such as bullying, racism, beauty standards, sexuality and, of course, social media.
