According to the IDF, Israel attacks Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut

Israeli forces carried out a “precise attack” on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon, the IDF announced Friday.

IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said the headquarters was deliberately built in the heart of Beirut’s Dahieh beneath residential buildings “as part of Hezbollah’s strategy to use Lebanese as human shields.”

Videos and images show clouds of smoke rising over Beirut after the Israeli attacks. Witnesses said they heard several strikes.

Fox News has learned that the target of the attack was Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. It is unclear whether Nasrallah was hit.

Hezbollah al-Manar television reported that the multiple attacks destroyed four buildings and caused many casualties, marking a significant escalation of Israel’s conflict with the heavily armed, Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

Security sources in Lebanon said the attack targeted an area where senior Hezbollah officials are usually based. It was the worst attack in Beirut in nearly a year of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

The attacks came in Beirut shortly after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed in a highly anticipated speech to the United Nations to continue Israeli attacks on Iran-backed militants in Lebanon as hopes for a comprehensive ceasefire faded could prevent regional war.

The fight between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated dramatically in the last month as the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) began targeting the terrorist network’s hotspots and military storage units, all strategically embedded in civilian villages.
