The withdrawal of the southwest monsoon is delayed by about a week, starting early this week in western Rajasthan and western Gujarat and gradually progressing eastwards. Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation over north Madhya Maharashtra and surrounding areas is expected to bring heavy rain to areas from south Gujarat to western Maharashtra and around Uttar Pradesh by Saturday.

Looking ahead to next week, dry conditions are expected across much of north and central India. Maximum temperatures will remain below normal in the Punjab plains, Ganga plains and Gujarat until the weekend, while western Rajasthan may see maximum temperatures of up to 40°C.
