Lexington feels strong winds ahead of Hurricane Helene

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) – Lexington County is expecting strong winds Friday off Helene.

Helene landed in Florida late Thursday evening and is heading north toward the Palmetto State.

On the trail of strong winds

Some parts of the Midlands, including Lexington County, will see winds of up to 60 miles per hour.

The county’s emergency management department told WIS that the worst has not yet happened – and that conditions are expected to change in the next hour or so.

It is important to remember that winds pose a greater threat than the rain on the western side of the Midlands, where most impacts will be felt.

Although flash flooding is possible, some of which has been seen in several parts of the Midlands, wind is the focus.
