Cowboys fans already want a new CB to be benched after the terrible game against the Giants goes viral

The Dallas Cowboys seem to have forgotten what a fast start is. The New York Giants put the ball in Mike McCarthy’s court early in Thursday night’s game, and the offense went out of bounds in an instant.

Although the running game couldn’t get anything going, McCarthy called two inside handoffs right away. CeeDee Lamb slipped on his way to third-and-5 and the Cowboys stumbled. Suffice to say, McCarthy is already testing the patience of Cowboys fans, but it was one player on defense that drew the most ire from the fan base.

With Caelen Carson out with a shoulder injury, Andrew Booth took over as the starting cornerback opposite Trevon Diggs. Acquired from the Vikings in a rare preseason trade, Booth was a healthy backup in the first two games.

The Giants smartly went after Booth early. Raw and eager to make a play, Booth was crossed on a hesitation route by rookie phenom Malik Nabers. It wasn’t the dirtiest route you’ll ever see, but it still sent Booth to another dimension.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys don’t have the luxury of benching Booth. However, Mike Zimmer made a quick adjustment as Trevon Diggs now follows Nabers. The move had to be done. Nabers may be a rookie, but he already looks like a legit No. 1 receiver.

Entering his start Thursday night, Nabers ranked second in the NFL with 24 catches, fifth with 271 receiving yards, first with 37 targets and first with three touchdown catches, according to Pro Football Reference. He deserves CB1’s attention. Booth is arguably fifth in the CB pecking order.

Based on Booth’s first appearance against Nabers, it’s clear that he should face players like Wan’Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton and Jalin Hyatt.

Booth has since recovered and made two open-field tackles, but Zimmer will keep a close eye on the former second-round pick from now on. If Booth has another slip-up, it might be time for Israel Mukuamu to get some reps at cornerback.
