MGK recalls the Jelly Roll feud at the People’s Choice Country Awards

MGK jumped out of his seat when his name was announced as the winner of Crossover Song of 2024 at the People’s Choice Country Awards.

He celebrated “Lonely Road,” a “Country Roads” interpolation (John Denver) he did with Jelly Roll. These two have a story.

  • MGK also thanked John Denver’s family for agreeing to use the song.
  • As he walked to the stage to accept his award, an announcer revealed that his cover of “Sun to Me” (Zach Bryan) was named cover song of the year.
  • Jelly Roll was not at the 2024 PCCAs.

“Comparison is the thief of joy,” said MGK. “There’s enough room for everyone on this couch.”

He was referring to a now-settled feud with Jelly Roll. They both recognized it and even spoke openly about the root of it.

“You were just skinny and good-looking,” Jelly Roll said earlier this month. “I was just a hater. Do you know what i mean? I was just a hater, dude!”

“Malibu’s Most Wanted” was an MGK diss track from the rapper’s early career. “It’s so funny how much I love you now because God, I hated you so much back then,” MGK says in the same podcast episode.

Review of Thursday evening; “We found camaraderie in the chaos,” says Machine Gun Kelly.

One has to wonder if MGK has more country music planned. He admitted he was also on the NBC show last year, and his win in two categories signals a door is open for him.

“I don’t think of music as a genre,” he said from the stage. “For me there are two genres of music: good music and bad music.”

Songs from Zach Bryan, Kelsea Ballerini, Post Malone and more helped fill the 2024 Crossover Song of the Year category. He is also nominated for the 2024 music video.
