Two men were found on the ground after a shooting in Richland County, the S.C. sheriff says

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, two men were shot Wednesday evening after a physical argument broke out.

Around 7 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex at 508 Longtown Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release Thursday. That’s in Columbia, near Farrow Road and the intersection of Killian and Clemson streets.

According to the news release, officers found two men lying on the ground who had been shot.

Both men were taken to an area hospital, the sheriff’s department said. No further information about their conditions was available.

During their investigation, officers determined that the men were acquaintances who were involved in an argument that ended physically, the statement said. There was no word on why the men were arguing.

When a physical incident occurred, one man grabbed a gun and began shooting at the second man, the sheriff’s department said. The second man also picked up a gun and began shooting at the first man, causing both men to suffer gunshot wounds, the release said.

No other injuries were reported.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department, which said charges will be filed.
