Detroit Tigers madness has hit Brush Street.

Despite not being able to watch too many Tigers games due to a busy schedule with his own team, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is following the race to the postseason and was excited Thursday as the Tigers took one American League is approaching the playoffs with a wild card for the first time since 2014.

“It’s great, dude,” Campbell said with a grin at the Lions’ Allen Park practice facility. “The Tigers were written off in July, that’s what I heard. … Look at her now.”

The Tigers were eight games under .500 entering Aug. 11 and had less than a 1% chance of reaching the postseason, according to multiple forecasting models. In the 40 games between that point and Thursday’s matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, however, the Tigers were 29-11, including four straight wins and eight of nine wins to give the Minnesota Twins the final wild-card spot in the to overtake AL.

Although Campbell wasn’t able to watch, he is still impressed by the work of manager AJ Hinch and the entire 40-man roster as someone who understands the trials and tribulations of professional sports.

“I’m for these guys, that’s what I do,” Campbell said. “I love it because I think when you sit in these seats and do what they do at a professional level, it doesn’t matter where you are. You just have to keep improving. You improve, improve, improve, work.”, work, work – and that’s what they did.

“And you just don’t know how many problems you’re working on and trying to figure out. Find the best rotation and figure it out and work on it and work with it and what about this lineup? And pretty.” Soon you’ll find it and it just keeps getting better. And they have done that, they are playing really well at the moment. So yeah, I’m excited about them.

The Tigers are on track to become the second Detroit team to reach the postseason this calendar year after Campbell’s Lions won the NFC North and broke a 32-year playoff drought by advancing to the NFC Championship Game . The Tigers are on a run reminiscent of the 2022 Lions, who won eight of their last 10 games, went from 1-6 to 9-8 and narrowly missed the playoffs.

The Tigers entered Thursday with a magic number of three with four games remaining, meaning they have a combination of three wins against the Rays and White Sox or the Twins’ losses in their last four games (against the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles) need to secure a postseason bid (or a magic number of five with Kansas City).

“Man, it’s nice to be hot late at night,” Campbell said.

The 2-1 Lions host the Seattle Seahawks (3-0) on Monday night as they look to continue their quest for a second straight postseason berth, the first since three straight seasons in 1993-95.
