The Taylor County elections office fires volunteer registrar amid voter fraud investigation

The Abilene Police Department’s Fraud Unit is investigating allegations of voter fraud.

APD received a report alleging that one of the two major parties attempted to register a minor while he was working a booth at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo.

In the press release, APD advised citizens to be cautious this election cycle.

The Department wants citizens to exercise caution and good judgment in this election cycle, which remains highly competitive. No charges have been brought in the ongoing investigation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and multiple agencies are working on this case, including the Taylor County Elections Office, Taylor County Judge Phil Crowley’s office and the Attorney General’s Office.

In a statement, Returning Officer Freda Ragan said the person involved in the investigation has been fired and is no longer deputy chancellor.

While this investigation is ongoing, I have terminated the appointment of the person under investigation as the appointed honorary deputy registrar. This person will also not be involved in the November 2024 election process that my office is charged with conducting.
