Ebay is already full of PS5 Pro anniversary consoles worth over $3,000

This morning, Sony began accepting pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 Pro and the limited 30th Anniversary version of the more powerful PS5, complete with matching controllers. The consoles sold out within minutes. Now black marketeers are trying to sell the retro packages on eBay for thousands of dollars.

On September 10, Sony officially unveiled the PS5 Pro after months of rumors. The console costs $700 and offers developers more power and theoretically allows gamers to enjoy more games at higher frame rates without sacrificing resolution or extra detail. The internet was abuzz with drama and discussion about the console almost immediately after the announcement. And then Sony announced a special PS1-inspired version of the PS5 Pro and suddenly a lot of people were willing to spend too much money on a new Sony console again. However, if you didn’t snag a pre-order on Thursday morning, you’ll have to pay thousands of dollars on eBay to get your gray PS5 Pro.

The pre-order process for the new PS5 Pro and the $1,000 PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Bundle on September 26th was a nightmare. People struggled to buy anything on the PlayStation Store, and those who got lucky are now promptly trying to snag the anniversary bundles on eBay.

Checking the auction page, I discovered nearly 100 different listings for 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro and PS5 Slims on eBay. The Pro bundles – which include two PS1 gray controllers, a carrying case and a stand – range in price from $2,000 to over $5,000. The Anniversary PS5 Slims – which are also sold out on Sony’s website and cost $500 – are also being auctioned on eBay, with some black market dealers asking $1,500 for them.

Oddly enough, I’ve also seen people trying to sell regular PS5 Pros on eBay. Some are asking over $1,000 for the mid-gen upgrade, which is odd because I just checked Sony’s PlayStation Store and was still able to pre-order a $700 PS5 Pro without much hassle. If you want a Pro console, please don’t buy it on eBay for over a thousand dollars.

In fact, you shouldn’t buy any of these overpriced offers from black marketeers unless you want to encourage people to keep buying up great new items and selling them to you at three times the price.
