Tornado warning for Bamberg

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Power outages occurred in several counties early Thursday morning and tornado and flood warnings were in effect across the CSRA.

A tornado warning was issued for Bamberg at 10:30 a.m.

Around 9 a.m., officials reported flooding on William Few Parkway and Windmill Parkway. A parking lot at Parkway Elementary School is also flooded. Around 9 a.m., officials reported flooding on William Few Parkway and Windmill Parkway. A parking lot at Parkway Elementary School is also flooded.

Storm power outage

A warning applies to the following districts:

  • Columbia
  • Edgefield
  • McCormick
  • Lincoln

According to the Columbia County School District, weather officials have issued a tornado warning for our area, which was lifted at 8:15 a.m. Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff are taking all necessary safety precautions. All students and staff in portables will be moved indoors for the day. Additionally, there are delays in school bus delivery of students due to localized flooding in the area.

The safety of students and staff is our highest priority and we will notify parents directly if and when a decision is made to change the school day schedule. Parents can download the Edulog Lite Parent Portal School Bus Tracker app to track their child’s school bus.

Hundreds of people were without power throughout the CSRA in the early morning hours before Hurricane Helene swept through the area on Thursday evening.

Georgia

According to the Georgia power outage map, 366 customers in the Vidette area were affected by a power outage, but as of 9:23 a.m., only 188 customers were still without power.

In the Augusta area:

  • Richmond County: up to 18 customers.
  • Columbia County: up to 30 customers.
  • Lincoln County: up to 10 customers.

In Burke County, a tree has downed power lines on Blount Chapel Road, according to storm reports. Highway 305 is closed between Vidette and Gough at Blount Chapel Road.

A tree fell on Ward Street in the city of Waynesboro.
