SSI checks are now being increased

This week there is good news for beneficiaries who SSI exams. According to the Social Security Administration, millions of beneficiaries who are eligible for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program will receive a new official increase in the coming months. This financial program is designed to provide monthly benefits to low-income seniors over 65, the disabled, and children in special financial situations. Fortunately, these beneficiaries will receive more benefits thanks to a total payment of $1,100,000 that will be paid out over the next three to six months. Learn more about this new payment and all the requirements you must meet to receive it.

The list of Americans who are eligible for more benefits in their regular SSI checks

Only 400 beneficiaries – all of whom must be unable to work due to a terminal illness – are eligible for this increase, according to the SSA’s official website. Qualifying conditions include chronic heart failure, kidney disease, leukemia and various types of cancer. In addition, the SSA states that the beneficiary has received inadequate payment. This is the time between filing a SSI application and get approval.

To make up for the underpayment to these beneficiaries, the SSA will use this increase, taking into account that patients with these conditions do not have much time. Within the next three to six months, the increase will be reflected in your monthly benefit paymentsprovided they do not exceed the maximum amount of $943 in 2024. Keep in mind that this is an additional payment for those who meet the previously mentioned condition. Those who do not qualify for this extra money will still receive their regular payments on the first day of each month.

Because the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is not funded by payroll taxes, recipients receive the same payment amount depending on the tax category they chose when filing. Under current guidelines, recipients who filed as individuals receive an average of $943 per month, while those who filed as couples receive $1,425. It is also important to note that some beneficiaries may be eligible for an additional monthly payment if they meet the essential person (EP) Requirement. If they meet this requirement, recipients will receive an additional payment of $472 in their SSI checks.

When does the Social Security Administration issue SSI checks?

Each year, the Social Security Administration issues SSI checks on the first day of each month, unless that day falls on a weekend, in which case the federal agency postpones the payment date to the previous business day. According to the Social security payment plan Here are all the confirmed payment dates for this year and the SSI program beneficiaries in 2024.

SSI payments SSI Payment Date Prepayment
August 1 August 30 August (1 September)
September
October October 1
November 1 November 29 November (1 December)
December 31 December (1 January)

As seen below, beneficiaries did not receive SSI checks in September because the first day of the month fell on a weekend. As a result, claimants received their rewards on August 30. This identical scenario will occur in December because the first day of the month falls on a weekend, but they will still be paid at the end of the month because January 1 is a holiday. A new way to apply for SSI checks in the USA

Social Security is gradually expanding its online benefits application system to provide a fully digital process for applying for SSI checks by the end of 2025. At that time SSI applicants can only begin the process online by providing some basic information; an SSA representative will then contact them to complete the process. Participants in this group can first apply for another benefit under the first phase of the new plan and then complete an abbreviated SSI application in iClaim. The SSA says this first phase will be completed by the end of 2024, and by the end of 2025 or early 2026, all Supplemental Security Income applicants – including those who apply based on age – will be able to access the iSSI option.
