Much of this was detailed yesterday, but for those who missed it, Ohtani has hit the most home runs in MLB since the All-Star break, hitting 24 home runs during that span, with Aaron Judge coming closest with 22 home runs.

That four-month streak has continued over the past seven days, with Ohtani hitting the most home runs in the last week (5). He also hit the most balls hit (100+ mph off the bat, 20-40 degree launch angle) with seven and the second most hard hit line drive + fly balls (10) during that time period.

Like yesterday, he has a tough opponent today in Dylan Cease of the Padres, a good pitcher, but Ohtani has already given Cease a yard once, back in June of last year.

Ohtani also faced a tough opponent yesterday in Michael King, and although he didn’t hit a home run, he did hit the aforementioned 111 mph double out of the gate, so he came close.

Ohtani will finish today.

Kyle Schwarber Home Run (+360) BetMGM

Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies, 6:05 p.m. ET

Schwarber has had a slight dip in performance over the past week or so after spending a few days recovering from a bruised elbow. It’s understandable that he’ll need some time to get back on his feet with an injured elbow, but the good news is that that seems to be a thing of the past.

He’s hit a home run in each of his last two games, and we all know the rush Schwarber is capable of when he’s right.

In September alone, we’ve already seen two different examples of this from Schwarber. He had a streak from September 3rd to September 10th where he hit a total of seven home runs, and now he’s hit a home run in three of his last four games.

He’s been red hot and we want that to continue tonight. This is another situation where the pitching duel isn’t quite as exciting as we’d normally like, with Javier Assad on the mound for the Cubs.

He has allowed only one home run to a left-hander in the last two months, but that seems to be more due to luck than anything else.

In that same series of games, he has allowed a hard hit rate of 43.68 and a line drive rate of 26.19%, and his overall SIERA (which measures the quality of batted balls allowed as well as the strikeout rate) is 4.64 against LHH, which would be the fourth-worst SIERA in the MLB.

According to FanGraphs stuff+, which measures a pitcher’s “stuff” based on velocity, spin rate and movement, 99% of Assad’s pitch mix is considered below average.

Look for Schwarber to stay hot tonight.

Charlie Blackmon Home Run (+630) FanDuel

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Colorado Rockies, 8:40 p.m. ET

Admittedly, part of this Blackmon reference comes from the emotion of his retirement at the end of this season, which is four days away. Blackmon is a beloved figure on the Rockies and a fan favorite who has been in Colorado since 2011.

He recently announced that he will retire at the end of this season; it will be an emotional farewell.

The good news, however, is that he has used that emotion to hit the ball with absolute power. In his last four games alone, he has a total of eight hard hits, including three rockets yesterday.

Here are the results of his hard hits in the last few games (keeping in mind that the Rockies had a day off on Monday):

  • 97.9 mph, 393 foot flyover (September 24)
  • 99.5 mph, 335 foot double (9/24)
  • 106.2 mph, 351 feet triple (9/24)
  • 101.2 mph overflight (22.9.)
  • 101.2 mph, 348 foot home run (September 21)
  • 101.5 mph, 386 foot double (21.9.)
  • 95.9 mph, 371 foot flyover (September 20)
  • 105.1 mph, 420 foot home run (9/20)

Although he didn’t score a single meter yesterday, he beat three real rockets that just couldn’t leave the stadium.

We hope he stays the way he is and gives fans a memorable exit in his final days in a Rockies jersey.

Honorable Mention: Garrett Mitchell Home Run (+900) Caesars

If you’ve made it this far, you deserve an honorable mention of underdog Garrett Mitchell at +900, who has a great chance to hit a home run despite the low odds.

The play against Mitchell is a fade against the pitcher he is facing, Luis L. Ortiz of the Pirates.

To be blunt, Ortiz has been beaten by left-handed hitters over the last two months. He has a HR/9 of 2.60 against LHH in this stretch, with a barrel rate of 9.40% and a hard hit rate allowed of 44.90%.

Mitchell is the only Brewers left-hander to hit a home run against a right-hander in the last month, and that’s six. He’s been great and is absolutely worth a shot at the juicy +900 odds.
