San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks: Predictions, odds and tips

Zac Gallen makes his 28th start of the season tonight and his 15th in his home ballpark. Throughout his career, Gallen has been the better pitcher when pitching in his home ballpark, and the Diamondbacks are hoping for a strong performance from their ace in a game they need to win. Arizona currently sits in the final wild-card spot in the National League, just a half-game behind the Mets and a half-game ahead of the Braves. With New York and Atlanta in the midst of a head-to-head series, Arizona will need to capitalize on its weaker opponent. San Francisco ranks just 23rd in wOBA against right-handed pitchers over the last 30 days and has the third-highest strikeout rate in this sample. I expect a strong performance from Gallen at this point.

Mason Black will pitch for the Giants today. It will be his 8th start and 9th overall appearance for the club. The right-hander has pitched just 33.2 combined innings in those games, and his 5.88 ERA and 1.51 WHIP are not great numbers. He pitched well against a struggling Royals lineup in his last start, but now he faces an Arizona offense that has been one of the best in baseball all season. I expect enough run support from the Diamondback hitters to cover the run line in this matchup.

Giants vs Diamondbacks prediction: Arizona -1.5 (-105) available at time of publication. Playable up to -110.
