Lightning travels to Orlando for second preseason game

After a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes to start their preseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning will face the current Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, tonight in Orlando. After putting a roster on the ice against the Canes with many players fighting for a roster spot, the Bolts will do the same again tonight, as they have a roster of players who will most likely play in Syracuse this season.

During morning skating the lines were:

Forward

Dylan Duke – Conor Geekie – Max Groshev

(open) – Jujhar Khaira – Jesse Ylonen

Jayden Dureau – Niko Huuhtanen – Gabriel Szturc

Joel Teasdale – Milo Roelens – Kale Kessy

defense

Scott Wolford – Nick Perbix

Derrick Poulit – Tyson Feist

Tobie Paquette-Bisson – Steven Santini

goalkeeper

Ryan Fantini

Jonas Johansson

Luke Glendening skated in the “open” spot on the second row, but he is still wearing a non-contact jersey. Mitchell Chaffee will likely take a spot on that row and was just taking a breather after his game last night.

Lightning fans in Orlando can say they saw Conor Geekie for the first time in a Lightning game (sadly, rookie showcase games don’t really count) on a line that will likely be one of the best in Syracuse this year. The same goes for the defense, where Nick Perbix is the only player who will play in Tampa next season.

The coaching staff will expect a similar defensive effort to last night. Hopefully there will be a little more offense, but the results of these games aren’t really important. Jon Cooper and his staff (including Joel Bouchard) want to see how the players understand the strategies the team wants to implement and if they can implement what they’ve worked on in practice in game situations.

The game will be streamed on the Lightning website and app, but only to spectators in the Tampa viewing area. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
