After an early deficit, the Twins beat the Marlins 8-3

The Twins had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning after the Marlins defense suffered two consecutive errors and a Trevor Larnach single. With the score tied, manager Rocco Baldelli made it clear how important the situation was when he brought in Austin Martin to runner on first for Edouard Julien.

Correa’s baserunning error wiped out a potential lead. Royce Lewis hit a first-pitch fastball into left field, where Griffin Conine made a pike catch after running five steps forward. Correa, the runner on second base, thought the ball was going to drop and ran several steps toward third base. Before Martin crossed home plate, where he easily could have scored after the catch, Correa was thrown out at second base, ending the inning.

Correa patted his chest and said “my mistake” to the dugout between innings.

The Twins were fortunate to be only three runs behind early in the game after Woods Richardson and Louie Varland allowed six runners in the first three innings.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom half of the third inning, Larnach hit a changeup of Marlins starter Edward Cabrera’s first pitch to center field for a two-run single.

In the fourth inning, Byron Buxton hit a leadoff solo home run to the second deck in left field, sinking a fastball on the first pitch. Buxton’s 18th home run of the season ended the team’s 63-inning home run drought, a streak that spanned more than six games.
