Did “Bachelorette” Jenn Tran, Ilona Maher and Anna Delvey of UW-Madison survive?

“A cheeky, shiny, mischievous little kitten.”

This is what “The Bachelorette” Jenn Tran’s performance on “Dancing with the Stars” looked like on Tuesday – at least according to judge Bruno Tonioli. And that despite technical difficulties with the music, which Tran mastered as perfectly as possible.

But would all that be enough for Tran, a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate, and her pro partner Sasha Farber to survive this week’s double elimination?

The theme of the second week was “Oscars Night,” which meant that the duos would dance to songs from Oscar-nominated films.

“I watched the Oscars all the time, especially as a kid,” Tran Farber said on the show.

Farber revealed that they would dance to “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got)” by Fergie, Q-Tip and GoonRock from “The Great Gatsby.”

“I wish ‘The Great Gatsby’ was the way I could live my life,” Tran said. “The ’20s era is about being wild and free, and that’s what I want to convey.”

Tran – in a rhinestone-embellished fuchsia top, flowing skirt and long gloves – and Farber – in a matching tuxedo and bow tie – performed a tango.

“Jenn Tran, you are a real surprise!” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba. “There is so much good going on here. You are lively, you have the stature – you pulled her into the tango. Although, that was a fast tango, my friend.”

Inaba asked if something happened to the music during the dance.

Although the music wasn’t loud enough, Farber said, Tran “rocked it.” Host Alfonso Ribeiro added that he heard the music in his ear, but not on the dance floor. Inaba praised the couple for the way they handled the mess.

Farber later explained that he and Tran could only hear the “click track” at the beginning of the dance, but Tran managed to “stay in time until the music started.”

“Jenn, you are a natural artist and you command the stage in a fantastic way,” said judge Derek Hough.

While he criticized some of her arm positions and stances, he applauded her cartwheel.

“I didn’t know I could do this, I’m not going to lie,” Tran said.

“I think you danced like a sassy, shiny, mischievous little kitten tonight,” Tonioli told Tran. “You mean business. They’re right, something happened. But don’t diminish what you accomplished. Because the parts that were good were brilliant.”

Tran and Farber received a score of 19 out of 30, with Inaba receiving a six, Derek a six, and Tonioli a seven. That’s the same total score as last week’s premiere, giving them a total score of 38/60.
