Julie Chrisley has just been re-sentenced: Insights into the decision

A federal judge has issued a ruling in Julie Chrisley’s re-sentencing hearing.

On September 25, a judge refused to reduce the reality star’s prison sentence in the fraud and tax evasion trial.

In 2022, Julie and Todd Chrisley were found guilty of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Todd Chrisley received a 12-year prison sentence, while his wife was sentenced to seven years in prison, NBC News reported.

On June 21, 2024, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the original trial judge had incorrectly calculated Julie Chrisley’s sentence because there was “insufficient evidence” that she was part of a bank fraud scheme that began in 2006.

The conviction was then overturned and a lower court was ordered to impose a new sentence against Julie Chrisley.

Julie Chrisley was present at the hearing in Atlanta and gave a short speech in court. “I apologize for my actions and for what brought me to where I am today,” she said, according to AP. She also said, “I can never repay my children for what they had to go through, and I am sorry for that.”

According to a ruling obtained by TODAY.com, the court “reasoned the sentence imposed.” Julie Chrisley was sentenced to 84 months (seven years) in prison and five years’ probation. She was originally sentenced to seven years.

One day before her mother’s re-sentencing, Savannah Chrisley asked her Instagram followers to think of Julie Chrisley before the hearing.

“Tomorrow, September 25th is my mother’s re-sentencing date. I just ask that you all please pray. Pray for my mother, pray for my family, and pray for the judge. Pray that my mother comes home to a community of people who need and love her ❤️🙏🏼,” she captioned the post.

Savannah Chrisley also addressed her mother’s re-sentencing in an episode of her podcast “Unlocked” in July. She called the news “a really big deal” and said she hoped Julie Chrisley would be home “by Thanksgiving.”

“Now we’re sitting here waiting, hopefully no more than 90 days until the hearing,” she said at the time. “Hopefully she comes home. When she comes home, oh my God, life will be so much better.”

Todd and Julie Chrisley are serving their sentences in different states and first reported to their respective prisons in January 2023. On September 8, 2023, the Federal Bureau of Prisons reduced Todd and Julie Chrisley’s sentences by two years and 14 months, respectively.

According to a Bureau of Prisons records search dated September 25, 2024, Julie Chrisley is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2028.

The “Chrisley Knows Best” stars’ legal troubles began in 2017, when Todd Chrisley was investigated in Georgia after failing to pay state income taxes for years. In 2019, a grand jury in Atlanta indicted Todd and Julie Chrisley on the following charges: 12 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States.

After settling tax evasion charges and paying $147,944.75, the couple faced 12-count federal indictment and were sentenced in June 2022.
