Scottsdale High School temporarily sealed off after threat

PHOENIX – A Scottsdale high school was temporarily locked down Wednesday morning as police responded to an unspecified threat.

“We have numerous police units at Chaparral High School in response to a threat to the school. The school is on lockdown and officers are actively clearing the campus,” Scottsdale police said in a social media post around 9:40 a.m.

Police urged the public to stay away from the school, located at 6935 E. Gold Dust Ave., near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard, until they gave the all-clear.

By 10:15 a.m., two searches of the campus had been completed, but no serious threat had been identified, police said.

“Scottsdale Police have given the all-clear for Chaparral HS. There is no danger. Students will be dismissed early today as usual at 12:20 p.m.,” the Scottsdale Unified School District said in a statement.

Scottsdale High School was not the only target of the recent threats

Authorities have responded to a spate of threats against schools in the Valley in recent weeks and made numerous arrests.

However, no attacks were carried out.

This week alone, two students in West Valley were arrested for allegedly threatening their school.

On Sunday, a 12-year-old Buckeye girl was arrested for allegedly making a terrorist threat against a Wisconsin school.

And last week, a teenager was arrested for allegedly threatening mass shootings against 12 Phoenix-area schools, and a 12-year-old Apache Junction girl was arrested for posting a threat against a school on social media.
