Southern Cook County braced for flooding following a brief tornado warning Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a flash flood warning has been issued for parts of Chicago and Cook County until 3:45 p.m.

A tornado warning was issued for Cook County, but it was canceled at 12:45 p.m. The NWS said very heavy rain and pea-sized hail were expected.

According to the NWS, winds of up to 50 mph were expected near Calumet City, Lansing and Harvey by 1:15 p.m.

Overall, it will be fairly rainy today, and some parts of our observation area may see a good 1 inch of rain. There may be a few rumbles of thunder here and there, but widespread thunderstorms are not expected.

Highs will be similar to yesterday at just over 18 degrees. Tonight there could be a few showers and lows will be just over 10 degrees.

Tomorrow it will gradually clear up and temperatures will be around 24 degrees. There could be some rain, especially in the morning. Thursday and Friday will be partly sunny with highs of around 24 degrees.

Then all eyes will be on the remnants of what would become Hurricane Helene. Helene’s remnants will likely produce some rainfall here over the weekend.
