A GREAT SUCCESS
Boston’s hitting power was nonexistent for most of the night against Toronto starter Bowden Francis. The right-hander limited the Red Sox to just three hits in five strong innings. Francis appears to have Boston under control this season after throwing seven scoreless innings with just one hit allowed in a win over the Red Sox on Aug. 29.

Masataka Yoshida tied the game an inning later with a fielder’s choice that scored Romy González. In the two innings, Boston scored three runs on five hits and eventually forced overtime.

The Red Sox kept the momentum going into extra innings when Trevor Story took a three-run lead with an RBI double in the 10th inning. Toronto held on for two runs in the home half before Chase Shugart finally put the game away and the Blue Jays left the bases loaded.
