Bam Margera must remain in jail for evaluation after being arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Belfast Township, Pennsylvania

CHESTER COUNTY, Pa. (WPVI) — Bam Margera remains in jail after the reality TV star was arrested last week on suspicion of drunk driving.

Margera appeared in court on Monday for allegedly violating the terms of his probation.

A Chester County judge ordered Margera to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation before the court could make a decision on his case.

Pennsylvania State Police said the 44-year-old was arrested last Monday in Fulton County, Pennsylvania, during a traffic stop on suspicion of drunken driving, which led to a warrant for his arrest in Chester County.

Police responded to a report of a man sitting outside an ice cream shop in the 7500 block of Great Cove Road in Belfast Township. However, before they arrived, the person reportedly drove away in a black four-door sedan.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle matching this description traveling south on Great Cove Road and conducted a traffic stop.

Margera was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and other violations, police said.

“He has done very well since our last visit here. He has passed all drug and alcohol tests,” said Margera’s attorney William Brennan.

Margera’s lawyers argued that he had been doing well since being arrested for attacking his brother and threatening to kill his family at his home near Philadelphia, as well as for the public drunken incident in Randor last year.

They said he was back in trouble with the law due to a recent relapse.

“You have to take the positive out of every negative. Bam has made many good steps forward. There is one step back and we will continue to make sure he moves forward,” said attorney Michael Van Der Veen.

The Chester County judge raised concerns about Margera’s previous drunken driving arrest in California in 2018, which he said was the reason for holding the former star for evaluation. Until then, the judge said, he was not prepared to release Margera and give him the opportunity to get behind the wheel and potentially kill someone.

His lawyers told Action News that Margera is looking forward to getting his life back on track.

“Everyone in the courtroom is interested in helping him, but so is he. He wants to get well. He wants to put the case behind him and we will make sure that happens,” Van Der Veen said.
