The Tigers are on a roll in their push for the playoffs, winning 21 of their last 29 games.
With Tuesday’s 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays and the Twins’ loss to the Marlins, the Tigers’ magic number dropped to four. The magic number is the combination of Tigers wins or Twins losses that would guarantee a wild-card spot.
According to FanGraphs, the Tigers now have an 87.3 percent chance of making the playoffs.
The Tigers have their destiny in their own hands and if they win all five remaining games, they will secure a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2014.
The Tigers and Royals have the same record at 83-74 and are tied for the second wild-card spot in the American League. The Royals also beat the Nationals on Tuesday.

The top two division winners receive a bye to the Division Series. The other four teams play best-of-three series in the wildcard round.
The top four teams have all secured playoff spots: the Yankees (92-65), Orioles (87-70), Guardians (91-67) and Astros (86-72). The Guardians and Astros won the AL Central and AL West, respectively, while the Yankees and Orioles are still battling for the AL East title.
As things stand, the Astros would move into the wildcard round along with the following three top teams:
