Tomorrow we open the windows, later this week parasols

Now the fall feeling is here. The day was full of clouds and a little sun. Temperatures barely reached 21 degrees due to the cloud cover. There were even a few light showers in the afternoon. Today’s cloud cover is thanks to a storm moving south from Iowa that will become the dance partner of another storm later this week.

Tonight we can expect clouds to move in through the evening. A few showers are still possible, mainly west of Highway 65. By morning the clouds will clear and temperatures will cool. Another round of dense fog is possible near and west of I-49, with some patches of fog possible further east.

Wednesday and Thursday will offer beautiful September weather. Bright morning conditions will give way to partly sunny afternoon skies. A few isolated showers are possible closer to West Plains and Alton, but most of the area will remain dry on Wednesday. Thursday looks to be a dry day before a wet finish to the week.

The interaction between the current Tropical Storm Helene and the storm in the upper atmosphere will be interesting to watch. These two factors will work together to produce rain and cool temperatures through the end of the week as the remnants and tropical moisture are drawn westward into the storm’s upper atmosphere circulation.

There is a chance the storm combination will bring at least a few inches of rain. This could be another “Francine” scenario with higher rainfall amounts south and east of I-44, with amounts of less than an inch to the north.

Due to cloudy and rainy weather, temperatures on Friday will be cool at -1 °C.
