‘Wordle’ No. 1,193 Tips, hints and answers for the game on Tuesday, September 24th

Find today’s Wordle particularly difficult? Newsweek contains some clues that can help you guess the word correctly.

Brooklyn-based software developer Josh Wardle developed the game and launched it in October 2021. Its popularity grew rapidly, rising from 91 players in November 2021 to 2 million players by January 2022. This caught the attention of The New York Timeswho purchased the game that same month for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

The rules of the game are pretty simple. Players have six chances to guess the daily five-letter word, and feedback is given each time the player makes a guess. A green box means the correct letter was guessed in the correct place, a yellow box means you guessed a letter that appears in the word even though it is not in the correct place, and a grey box means the letter does not appear in today’s word at all. There is no time limit on the game.

When speaking with Newsweek In January 2022, Wardle said there was a special reason why players were given six chances to guess the five-letter word.

“This may seem arbitrary, but with the prototype version I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of attempts players were allowed,” he said at the time. “Through this refinement process, I found that five letters and six attempts is the ideal sweet spot. It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and thought-provoking, but most people still manage to solve it. So you get a real sense of achievement.”
