Adam Brody and Kristen Bell Talk ‘Nobody Wants This,’ Why Kissing Wasn’t ‘Weird,’ and Where Seth Cohen Might Be Now (Video)

Have you ever wondered where Seth Cohen, the fictional character from The OK, ended? The actor who portrayed him with so much heart, Adam Brody, has some thoughts on the matter.

Brody stars alongside Kristen Bell in Netflix’s fun new series Nobody wants thatwhich premieres on September 26. It follows Joanne (Bell), an agnostic LA-based podcast host, and Noah (Brody), an unconventional rabbi, who fall passionately in love. Noah shares some similarities with Cohen, and not because they’re both Jewish. It’s Noah’s quick wit and flirtatious on-screen banter that might evoke nostalgic Seth Cohen feelings in viewers.

When Yahoo Entertainment spoke to Brody, he said we weren’t entirely wrong with the comparison, but clarified: “I don’t think Seth Cohen would have become a rabbi.”

“I don’t think he had the energy of a rabbi, or at least he was on his way there,” Brody joked. “I think this person, Noah, knew what he wanted to do from the age of nine and went all in. I think Seth had a lot of other interests that had nothing to do with Torah or basketball.”

Nobody wants that is loosely based on the life of creator Erin Foster, who converted to Judaism for her husband Simon Tikhman. (Tikhman is a music executive, not a rabbi). Part of what makes the show so successful is the chemistry between Bell and Brody, which Foster has described as “hot.” That’s funny considering Brody, Bell, and their respective spouses Leighton Meester and Dax Shepard are all friends. Was it kind of weird to film their (multiple) kissing scenes because of that?

“I wouldn’t say it was weird,” Bell tells Yahoo about the kiss with her friend.

“I wouldn’t say it was strange either,” Brody agrees.

“It was definitely a comfort because a) we had worked together as romantic partners before. We have enough mutual friends and know each other’s spouses,” Bell says. “There’s… a comfort level, right? Because I can tell Adam anything. I know he can tell me anything. There’s no weird energy between us. I mean, we were both, I think, a little bit terrified when we read the script where we had to kiss, where it said it was going to be the greatest kiss in the world (in Episode 2).”

However Frozen The star attributes her and Brody’s friendship to the fact that they were able to “create something from a safe place.”

“And once you’ve done it the first time or a couple of times, you’re into it,” Brody added. “We didn’t do any sex scenes, that’s a whole other story.”

Nobody wants that Streaming on Netflix begins Thursday, September 26th.
