“(Short n’ Sweet) is very different from (her) last album,” she said via Only Jared. “I was questioning it until the day before the release, like, ‘Is it finished?’ and ‘Could I have changed it?’ and ‘Could I have written a different song?'”

“And to be honest, I’m having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I feel like life never ends,” she added. “So it’s really hard to say when a chapter of your life should end.”

Carpenter later admitted that her argument “doesn’t really make sense, other than the fact that you just have a feeling.”

“I know it sounds very cliche, but you just know,” she said. “And there was a moment where I just knew. And it wasn’t even like, ‘Oh, and I wrote the 12th song.’ It was all these things that I wanted to put into words for a short chapter in my life, and I thought, ‘You know what? I’ll be fine for the next week, and then I’ll write another album.’ It was like I was just ready to wrap it up.”

Why did she name the album “Short n’ Sweet”?

Before the release, the former Disney Channel star explained that she didn’t name the album “Short n Sweet” because she was “short in stature,” but because she was really “thinking about some of those relationships and how some of them were the shortest I’ve ever had and they shaped me the most.”

“I think about how I react to situations, and sometimes it’s very nice and sometimes it’s not so nice,” the artist continued. “And again, the thing about albums, projects, writing songs is that they’re always moments. So when other people hear something that will stay with them for maybe many years, hopefully many years, it’s harder for them to understand that I’m not the same person I was when I wrote that.”

“I’ve always longed to take a person or a situation or a relationship in my life so close to my heart that it evokes such great feelings in me, because I think that’s why we’re here, you know?” she concluded.
