Bengals’ Cam Taylor-Britt talks with Commanders QB Jayden Daniels

I’m not going to lie. At first, I didn’t like what Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt has been doing over the past two weeks, offering up bulletin board material, but I’m starting to like what he’s doing.

This is what the Bengals’ opponents have done in years past, giving the Bengals material for the wall. Taylor-Britt may be doing it now, but he’s already backed it up against the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, Taylor-Britt is speaking ahead of the Bengals’ Monday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders. The Bengals’ third-year cornerback spoke about the Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels this week and said the following.

“Easygoing. They don’t let him do a lot. They keep it really simple for him,” Taylor-Britt told reporters Thursday. “Good college offense, Kingsbury is the OC. They’ll move guys here and there, but keep it really simple for him. I’ve heard his passing percentage is pretty high, but he only throws short routes. Some in-between stuff, quick throws.”

Daniels was the No. 2 overall pick this year and won the Heisman Trophy in 2023. He has yet to throw a touchdown in two starts, but last week he led the Commanders to their first win of 2024 against the New York Giants.

From a statistical standpoint, Daniels has performed well over the past two weeks with 410 passing yards and 132 rushing yards, while also scoring two touchdowns.

Kliff Kingsbury is in his first season as offensive coordinator with the Commanders. He previously spent four seasons as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, where he developed Kyler Murray into a dynamic quarterback and led the Cardinals to an 11-6 record and a playoff berth in 2021.

The thing is, if Taylor-Britt keeps doing what he’s doing, I have no problem with anything he says before games. The Bengals haven’t had a trash-talking cornerback since… when? Be happy that the Bengals have someone like Taylor-Britt on their team.

The Bengals are 0-2 for the third straight season, but it seems like the team is still confident. They have been here before and have responded well the last two seasons. What Taylor-Britt is doing can be seen as arrogant and stupid by fans of other teams. As a Bengals fan, I like that. This team needs some confidence and I think they’re getting it back. If they get their first win of the season on Monday night, I think that will be the start of a winning streak. There’s still a lot of football left to play and Taylor-Britt may have a lot to talk about.
