Have you visited the new McDonald’s branch in Illinois?

Given the strength and longevity of the McDonald’s brand, I’m surprised something like this hasn’t happened sooner. But it has, and it proves once again that the bigwigs at Golden Arches know how to stir up trouble.

Unless you count the McDiner (which you can, although some don’t), this would be the first McDonald’s spin-off restaurant. (I looked and couldn’t find another one.) And it will be futile to walk into a CosMc’s and expect the same dishes you’d find at the parent company… with a few exceptions.

Aimed at a younger crowd, CosMc’s menu offers a wide variety of breakfast and beverage options, from specialty coffees, slushes and frappes to sandwiches like the spicy queso – an omelet with sausage, spicy queso sauce, white cheddar cheese and crispy jalapeno chips – and the creamy avocado tomatillo – an omelet with applewood bacon, creamy avocado tomatillo sauce and white cheddar cheese. Both are served on a brioche bun. The sides on CosMc’s menu also look a little different, but three old favorites are also available.

The first CosMc’s location opened last December in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, IL. Four additional locations in Texas have also opened, and we certainly hope the expansion continues.

And if you’re wondering where the name “CosMc’s” comes from, all you have to do is look back to the late 1980s and early 1990s when McDonald’s introduced a character named CosMc:

I love the menu at CosMc and I’m crossing my fingers that they continue to grow and eventually become available near me…or even 100 miles away. I’m ready to go.
