Shelton’s Farm Market closes after 77 years

NILES TOWNSHIP – A business that has served the Michiana community for decades will soon close its doors.
Shelton’s Farm Market, 1832 S. 11th St., Niles, announced that if all goes according to plan, it will close its doors in 2025 after 77 years of operation.
“This decision comes with mixed emotions: a deep sense of gratitude and fulfillment for the successes we have achieved, sincere pride and appreciation for our incredible team of employees and friends who have been instrumental in our growth, and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful customers we have been privileged to serve for generations,” the store said in a press release. “We are proud to conclude our journey on our corner on our own terms and at the peak of our achievements. However, there is a time and place for everything, and it is with great humility and a heavy heart that we share this news with you. There is no perfect time to share this information, as inspections and closings are still pending, but we feel it is important to address the growing buzz on social media and beyond.”
In the press release, Shelton’s also announced that Aldi Foods, a popular discount supermarket chain, will replace the Shelton’s building with a new Aldi’s supermarket at that location.
“The good news for the community is that we believe we have found the right successor – a major retailer committed to continuing to provide value to our community,” the press releases said. “When Aldi Foods approached us, the difficult decision to move on became a little more bearable. They will replace our worn-out building with a brand new facility and promise to deliver great food at great prices and new job opportunities from this location.”
The press release further stated that although the company’s decades-long location is coming to an end, new opportunities may arise for the company in the future.
“We are optimistic that we can continue the legacy of Shelton Farms – a new location, a new look and better values than ever before,” the press release said. “Our commitment to providing quality products and unmatched customer service remains strong and we look forward to sharing more details as they become available.”
