Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View,” said Monday that American politicians who said there was no room for political violence had lost touch with reality after another assassination attempt on former President Trump.

“I kept reading tweets yesterday from elected officials of both parties: ‘There is no place, no room for political violence in America.’ And you know, we condemn political violence. We condemn it no matter who it is perpetrated against or attempted against,” she said.

Navarro went on to list politically motivated attacks in the United States, noting: “What kind of America do these people live in that they think there is no place for political violence?”

“When Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was shot in the head at a rally in her district. When the congressional baseball team was shot. When Nancy Pelosi’s husband had his skull smashed in with a hammer by a political enemy. When people invaded and stormed the Capitol on January 6. When there were, you know, two separate attacks on Donald Trump?”

“So this is the America we live in, and political violence is an essential part of it,” she said.

Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday when Secret Service agents foiled the assassination attempt by shooting the suspect, who authorities said was sticking a rifle through a hole in the fence about 300 yards ahead of him. The suspect fled but was arrested a short time later.

President Biden condemned “political violence” in a statement and praised the Secret Service for protecting Trump.

“As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or violence of any kind in our country. I have directed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has all the necessary resources, capabilities and protections to ensure the former President’s continued safety,” the statement said.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer wrote on X: “There is no place for political violence of any kind in this country. The perpetrator must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries echoed Schumer’s sentiments, saying, “Political violence has no place in a democratic society.”

Navarro, a staunch Trump opponent, also accused Republicans of inciting “political violence.” He referred to the attempt on Trump’s life and the bomb threats against Springfield, Ohio, which were apparently linked to the discussion about Haitian migrants in the city.

“I’m telling you: bomb threats in Springfield. I consider that political violence. Threats against Taylor Swift for making an endorsement, which we all have the right to do, I consider political violence,” she continued.

The co-host then turned the topic to gun control and called for stricter regulations on the purchase of firearms.

“We need to talk about the fact that people with mental health issues continue to have easy access to assault weapons,” she said.

The FBI is investigating the incident, which occurred two months after another assassination attempt against the former president during a rally in Pennsylvania in July. There, the gunman wounded Trump in the ear and killed one of his supporters, Corey Comperatore.
