On a wild Sunday full of surprises, Gardner Minshew was not to be outdone.
The Las Vegas Raiders quarterback led his team to 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and a surprising 26-23 victory over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
Minshew finished the game completing 30 of 38 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown and one interception while facing a fearsome pass rush from Baltimore that saw him sacked five times and hit 10 times.
He had plenty of support from superstar wideout Davante Adams (nine catches for 110 yards and a touchdown) and rookie tight end Brock Bowers (nine catches for 98 yards).
After the game, fans and experts presented the trio with the flowers they deserved:
The Raiders will be excited to see the offense find its rhythm after being limited to 16 points through the first six quarters of the season. Alexander Mattison’s one-yard run in the third quarter fueled the tide before Minshew and the Raiders scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.
For Jackson and the Ravens, the star quarterback completed 21 of 34 passes for 247 yards, one touchdown, one interception and two sacks. Derrick Henry (18 carries for 84 yards and one touchdown) and Zay Flowers (seven catches for 91 yards) were also solid, but the offensive line was a problem for the second week in a row.
The Ravens — who were considered Super Bowl contenders at the start of the season — are 0-2 this year and face the Dallas Cowboys next weekend, while the Raiders improved to 1-1 and now face the pathetic Carolina Panthers.
