The Virginia Tech football team had a strong comeback game in Week 2 after a disappointing loss to open the 2024 college football season.
The Hokies (1-1) defeated Marshall 31-14 thanks to a 120-yard rushing performance from running back Bhayshul Tuten, while quarterback Kyron Drones added 130 passing yards and a touchdown in the win over the Thundering Herd. Virginia Tech lost its season opener to Vanderbilt of the SEC 34-27 in Nashville in Week 1.

The Monarchs (0-2) have lost three straight games since the 2023 Famous Toastry Bowl. However, ODU held up well against South Carolina, losing 23-19 on a touchdown late in the fourth quarter in Week 1 and losing 20-14 to East Carolina at home last week.
Old Dominion hosts Virginia Tech for the second time in three seasons and sixth time overall. Virginia Tech defeated the Monarchs 36-17 last season on Sept. 2, 2023, in Blacksburg. The Hokies lead the standings 3-2, with all meetings coming since 2017. The Monarchs have won both games in Norfolk and Virginia Tech has won all three games in Blacksburg.
