The 13 best kills in the Friday the 13th franchise (Halloweenies podcast)

Live in this world

After we discussed Paul Morrissey’s film with Udo Kier in August, Blood for Dracula (listen), Julia Ducournaus Raw track titanium (listen) and Stephen Herek’s consolation classic Creatures (listen) We ended the month with a look at Tim Burtons classic from 1988, Beetlejuice!

In the film, Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) are perfectly content married nerds who like to stay at home and work on their house. When they die unceremoniously, they are thrust into an afterlife with rules they don’t understand and horrible people like Delia (Catherine O’Hara) and Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones) who take over their house.

When a bio-exorcist named Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) offers his services to drive the living out of the house. Barbara and Adam accept his offer. Unfortunately, they soon discover that the wild spirit is completely out of control. Since Betelgeuse is determined to kill the Deetz’s daughter, Lydia (Winona Ryder), Barbara and Adam must intervene to save the situation and their new unconventional family.

Trace has a fun backstory in the film, while Joe barely has any connection to it. However, we both agree that the film is a creative triumph, with amazing characters and endless background details that flesh out the world.

Plus: several queer elements, the film’s obsession with suicide, the animated and musical adaptation, and why Delia is *the* best character.
