Spoilers for Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 2 is coming soon. Emily in ParisThe 4000 season 4 came to a groundbreaking conclusion on September 12, 2024, when the release of Season 4, Part 2 concluded the first two-part season of the Netflix dramedy. After the short wait, the streaming giant’s fashionable series came back with several exciting new characters (including a dreamy new love interest for Emily) and a setting change, as Emily finally took advantage of her paid vacation for a getaway to Rome, Italy. There was even a cameo from French First Lady Brigitte Macron, presumably part of the country’s efforts to ensure Emily’s return from Rome.
Of course, superfans who immediately devoured the television series are now clamoring for news about Emily’s future, especially after the hint of a possible change in “Emily in Rome.” Read on below to find out everything we know about Emily in Paris Season 5 so far.
Has “Emily in Paris” been renewed for season 5?
Short answer: Not yet. Netflix has not yet announced a Season 5 renewal, even though Season 4, Part 2 has premiered, but it’s hard to imagine the streaming giant saying goodbye to one of its biggest shows. If the streamer is waiting for viewership numbers, Emily in ParisThe chances are good, because Season 4, Part 1 reached 792 million minutes of viewers in the United States in its premiere week, per The Hollywood ReporterThe outlet also noted that viewership had declined since the third season debuted, but that was likely due to only half of the season being available rather than all 10 episodes.
Another indication that more Emily in Paris is coming, the series has already added a new addition to Season 5… somehow. Already in May 2024 diversity reported that an extra role in the fifth season of the series was auctioned off at the amfAR gala at the Cannes Film Festival. The winner of the auction reportedly paid €250,000 for his appearance in the series. Hosts Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson said that filming for season 5 is set to begin in mid-2025.
However, a source said at the time that Netflix had not yet approved a fifth season and that the auction item came “courtesy of (series creator) Darren Star.” The auction website was later updated to say that the set visit was “contingent on the fifth season being recorded.” Still, we’ll keep an eye out for news from Emily‘s future in the next few months.
Who would be in the cast of season 5 of “Emily in Paris”?
The entire main cast of the series is expected to return in Season 5, including Lily Collins (Emily), Ashley Park (Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc) and William Abadie (Antoine Lambert). Newcomers Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello), Thalia Besson (Genevieve) and Anna Galiena (Antonia) are also likely to return after making their refreshing debut in Season 4, Part 2.
Unfortunately, at least one fan favorite could be pushed into the background in a future season. In conversation with Shine After Season 4, Darren Star revealed that he “didn’t know” how important Camille (Camille Razat) would be in Season 5 after she found out she wasn’t pregnant with Gabriel’s baby and chose to adopt instead.
“I think the idea that she thought she was going to have a baby and then had to deal with that disappointment and then discovered there was a way to do it with Gabriel that he didn’t want to pursue – (as a result) she realized this was something she wanted to do on her own,” Star told the outlet. “So I don’t know what’s going to happen to her in season five. I’m not sure how much of that story we’re going to see now. But that’s kind of the direction it’s going.
What would season 5 of “Emily in Paris” be about?
Emily in ParisThe Season 4, Part 2 finale wraps up several storylines left hanging in the series that are set to be picked up in future episodes. First, Emily has temporarily relocated to Rome, where she will manage an office of Agence Grateau and focus on her six-month contract with Muratori (aka her new boyfriend Marcello’s family business). Mindy is back in Shanghai for the first time in years after a viral clip earned her an offer to serve as a judge on the same singing competition that led to her self-imposed exile. Camile is neither dating Gabriel nor pregnant, but she has new ambitions to raise a child as a single mother.
Plus, in a truly romantic cliffhanger, Gabriel heads to Rome to win Emily back after Alfie (now happily taken) urges him not to “let his pride and misunderstanding get in the way of the greatest girl in the world.” Gabriel will have an uphill battle ahead of him, however, as Emily and Marcello are stronger than ever after overcoming Emily’s work-life balance issues.
Despite the final scene in which Emily leaves her phone behind for a ride on Marcello’s Vespa, Darren Star confirmed in a post-season interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’re going to spend some time in Rome. But she hasn’t changed her Instagram name to Emily in Rome,” he told the outlet. “…They can be in more than one city, and Emily can spend time in Rome. She can also spend time in Paris. She doesn’t leave Paris.”
Starr confirmed that Emily will return to the City of Light while she is with Shineand at the same time promises at least a few more episodes in Italy.
“I think we’ll definitely see more of Emily in Rome if there’s a fifth season,” Starr told the network. “Emily (is) there now. There’s an office, and I think the story takes us there at the moment. So we’ll spend more time in Italy, but that doesn’t mean we’re leaving Paris.”
Starr also dropped some hints about possible season 5 storylines, including the reveal of Alfie’s girlfriend – and confirmation that Alfie will definitely be back in new episodes (yay!). When asked if the mystery girlfriend will make an appearance, Star teased, “We’ll find out next season.”
