JD Vance dismissed Taylor Swift, saying she was “fundamentally out of touch with the problems facing most Americans” after the pop superstar endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans – whether they like her music, are fans of her or not – are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and issues of most Americans,” Vance said Wednesday on “The Story.”
Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris for president after debate: “I have made my choice”
“When food prices go up 20%, it affects most Americans, not Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn’t affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire,” Vance continued. “It affects the middle class across our country.”
Swift endorsed Harris minutes after she and former President Trump made their first Presidential debate on Tuesday evening.
“The Story” host Martha MacCallum noted that Swift took a swipe at Vance in her announcement, signing on as “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady.” The refrain, which has gone viral in recent weeks, referenced a 2021 comment Vance made when he declared that the U.S. was effectively “by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and therefore want to make the rest of the country unhappy too.” He has since defended the remark as a “joke” that was “intentionally misunderstood” by Democrats.
Swift, who posted a photo of herself holding her cat above her statement of support on Instagram, said she would vote for Harris because “she fights for the rights and causes that I believe need a fighter to represent them.”
Vance said he believes the Trump campaign’s message is more compelling and tangible for female voters, emphasizing Republicans’ promise to restore public safety across the country.

“I think our pitch to voters is very simple. Donald Trump has implemented policies that have lowered food prices, lowered housing prices and, most importantly, Donald Trump has ensured public safety in our country.”
He continued, “I have three young children and I want my children to grow up in a country where the neighborhoods and streets are safe enough so that they don’t make mistakes and lose their lives. If you smoked a joint 20 years ago, your parents would yell at you. If you smoke a joint today, it’s laced with fentanyl and can kill a teenager.
“I don’t want that for my family, I don’t think most women want that for their neighborhoods and their families, and our argument is to vote for Donald Trump. We’re going to restore the public safety that has been so lacking in this country over the last few years.”
Trump previously did not seem bothered by Swift’s support for Harris, noting in an interview with “Fox & Friends” that he expected her to support the Democratic candidate.
“It was only a matter of time. She couldn’t possibly support Biden. When you look at Biden, you can’t possibly support him,” Trump said, clarifying that he was “not a Taylor Swift fan.”

“She’s a very liberal person. She always seems to support a Democrat,” he added. “And she’ll probably pay a price for that (…) in the market.”
